It is the beginning of November and we have turned the clocks back. It is officially time to think about Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving and Judaisim you say? Don’t most Jewish holidays incorporate food? Big meals, little meals and deserts. The list goes on and on.
While Thanksgiving is a secular holiday it does have strong Jewish ties. It is a time that we share hakarat hatov, or gratitude. It is a harvest holiday like Sukkot or Shavuot where we are thankful for the food on our table.
Why not weave some Jewish traditions into your Thanksgiving meal? You can light candles and say the Yom Tov blessing, say the hamotzi over the meal. Make a sweet potato kugel and serve challah. Plan a mitzvah as a family. Invite someone that has no place to go, run a Turkey Trot that supports a charity or write letters to the soldiers in the IDF for Hanukkah.
It is not too late to join us tonight for our Virtual Mussar on Generosity.
